About this project

Richmond's sprawling Hollywood Cemetery is the resting place of Jefferson Davis, 28 confederate soldiers, and former presidents' John Tyler and James Monroe.

The cast iron canopy over Monroe's tomb had undergone an extensive $900,000 restoration. It was completely dismantled and parts that were missing or badly damaged were recast before being painted and reassembled.

What we did

Ongoing inspections and maintenance are required as all coatings eventually begin to fail and abundant shade enables biological growth to cover the surfaces. We recently provided aerial inspections of structures, stabilized corrosion, and removed the biological growth from the canopy as part of the ongoing care required.

BRH provided the client a detailed conservation report and treatment recommendation guidelines to be utilized to for future conservation efforts and budgetary planning.
