About this project

B.R. Howard was contracted to perform conservation treatment to the decorative entablature on the upper portion of the Harrisburg Finance Building above the South entrance. The stone entablature had areas of spalling, formed cracks and other areas had begun to loosen and detach. Loose sections were temporarily removed so that repairs could be made which would properly secure them to the substrate.

What we did

The broken pieces were thoroughly cleaned and prepared for an application of a breathable non-epoxy adhesive. Holes were drilled for stainless steel securing pins and the detached pieces were then inserted and re-adhered. The mortar joints were ground out as deeply as possible to remove the hard mortar and repointed with to match the original color. The cracks and fills were color matched with Jahn M70 to the specific areas and grouted to prevent moisture infiltration.
